Spring Showers

Hello bloggers and Welcome Spring!

Before starting on thoughts of Spring, I wanted to send up prayers to the victims in Kentucky impacted by the violent weather that passed through here these last weeks. A huge shout out to all who have stepped up to help. Many items are still needed so please check the Red Cross for drop off locations. March truly has lived up to the adage, "In like a lion, out like a lamb" as today we reached 80 degrees with clear skies. Hard to believe the difference.

Since the weather has been such a focus, when I was asked to demonstrate a technique at PaperKutz last week, showers were on my mind.  I really wanted to try something new and unique to inspire for Spring.  The front of the card uses a basic layering technique and single dimension stamping. The intent was to keep it simple but focus the eye on the umbrella. The use of a color card base allowed for a solid edge against patterned paper without an added layer. The patterned paper reminded me of rain drops and the sentiment about "showers" tied nicely into the concept.

OK, so I hear you saying to yourself...this is basic stuff, where is the new and unique?  Well, that is the surprise, this time the focus was on the inside.  By using a new product called HoneyPop paper from Inky Antics, the card has an unexpected element of dimension.
How fun is this... I used a spoon handle stamp for the base and free hand cut the honeycomb paper to create  an umbrella top when the card is opened. With all the different colors available, all sorts of ideas come to mind. Just sticking with the umbrella idea, it could be used for baby showers, wedding showers, or even Mary Poppins.  But, I am really looking forward to creating pumpkins for Halloween cards! If you do not want to try it free hand like I did, Inky Antics even has clear stamp sets designed specifically for use with the papers. Give it a try.

Thanks for reading and may you be showered with blessings :). Have a super week.

Jeannette
